Liam Miller Memorial 5K Run – Sunday 26 July

Cork City FC, in association with Marymount, are delighted to announce our 2020 Liam Miller Memorial 5K Run to take place at 10 am, Sunday 26th July.

It is hoped that the run will take place at our Bishopstown Training Ground in Curraheen as normal, however, should this not prove possible, then we will conduct a virtual 5K Run, with entrants encouraged to do their 5K remotely and send their times in. Assuming the physical event goes ahead as planned, registration will start at 9 am.

Entry is €10 for adults, €5 for U-16s and €20 for a family entry (two adults and two U16). This year, we are adding a virtual option, for those who are unable to attend on the day, but also wish to participate. You can register via Eventbrite or through CCFC.ie/5k.

The 5K is for both serious and casual runners, wheelchair rollers, and walkers, of any age. Being active by running, jogging, or walking is to be encouraged; evidence shows that undertaking physical activity can help to prevent disease, maintain a healthy weight, and promote mental health and well-being.

We will have a €100 prize for 1st place, €50 for 2nd place and €25 for 3rd place, for both male and female categories. There are sure to be more than a few runners that will want the honour of claiming the cash along with the prestige of winning our third 5K.*

Our 1st place Under 16 male and 1st place Under 16 female, will both receive a €25 voucher each. Over 20 other spot prizes will be awarded at the event. Refreshments will be available at the training ground upon completion.

Speaking after details of the event were confirmed, Cork City Chairman Declan Carey said: “This fundraiser has become a staple on our calendar of community and charity work. We’re proud to work with Marymount and also honour Liam Miller. This event takes an enormous effort from all the club’s volunteers and whether this takes place as a virtual event or the more traditional style race, I’m sure it will be a great success as always and raise vital funds.”

Commenting on behalf of the Miller family, Mrs. Bridie Miller, Liam’s mother, said: “We are looking forward again to this now annual event. We are very pleased that Cork City FC and Marymount are working together to remember Liam and to raise money for very worthwhile causes. We would encourage people to participate or contribute if they are able to do so.”

John Kennedy, head of the organising committee said: “This event has now become established in the calendar, and we are very much looking forward to it once again. Unfortunately, with the current Covid-19 situation, we do not know whether it will be a physical event or a virtual one but, either way, we are proud to remember Liam and to run this important fundraiser.”

Please see the route map below for details of the planned route for the run. We will have stewards at all key positions on the route to ensure that everyone completes the 5K successfully.
