FORAS to attend SFSU conference in Malmo
The story of FORAS and Cork City FC will be shared in Europe once again this coming weekend. Following on from speaking at the FASFE conference in Madrid in January, ‘Improving Football Governance’ project manager Niamh O’Mahony will travel to Malmo for an event being hosted by the Swedish Football Supporters Union (SFSU) this Saturday.
Swedish project manager Lena Gustafson Wiberg attended the Irish conference in Cork last November and spoke to delegates about how the 50+1 rule operates in Sweden at the moment. Amid ongoing discussion about the rule’s future in Swedish football, the experiences of FORAS will be used to demonstrate the importance of continued supporter involvement in the game.
“There was considerable interest in FORAS and the growing number of supporter-run clubs and trusts at the FASFE event in Madrid, and it’s fantastic to see how the efforts of our all trustees can be the source of inspiration across Europe,” project manager Niamh O’Mahony said.
“This is a very busy time for the project as all partners finish their respective handbooks, and we look forward to engaging with as many of the stakeholders in Irish football as possible about our hopes and plans for beyond this particular project in the coming weeks and months.”
The Improving Football Governance through Supporter Involvement and Community Ownership project is funded by the European Commission and is being run in Ireland and eight other countries in partnership with Supporters Direct Europe. For further information, email [email protected]
