FORAS to attend final project workshop in Belgium

The final workshop of the Improving Football Governance project will take place in Antwerp, Belgium this coming weekend.

Project Manager Niamh O’Mahony has been invited to attend on behalf of FORAS and will recount the events that saw the supporters’ trust secure a place in League of Ireland football, securing the long-term future of Cork City FC in the process. She will also explain the role supporters have played at other League of Ireland clubs.

The project’s working group is currently putting the final touches to the Irish handbook being produced as part of the initiative. Covering topics such as setting up a supporters trust, funding opportunities and community projects, there have been numerous contributions from across the Irish football family and the wider academic community.

Niamh has also attended events in Madrid and, most recently, Malmo as part project, which draws to a close in the summer. The final report will be unveiled in Birmingham in June as part of the 2013 Supporters Summit.

Meanwhile, the European Commissioner in charge of Education, Culture, Multilingualism, Youth and Sport, Androulla Vassiliou, as voiced her support for the work of Supporters Direct Europe and its partners, which included FORAS.
