FORAS chairman hands on the reins

Friends of the Rebel Army Society (FORAS) announces that Jonathan O’Brien has stepped aside from his position as chairman of the Trust and Cork City Football Club. Jonathan has been involved with the Board of Management since the foundation of the Trust in 2008.

“I am proud to have been involved with FORAS since the very beginning and I will remain involved both on match night and as a source of support for the Board,” he said. “Additional responsibilities in my own working life means I no longer have the requisite time demanded by the position and the Board. However, I am confident I am leaving the club in capable hands.”

Following a meeting of the Board of Management on Monday evening, Michael Ring has been elected Chairman with Paul Hartnett remaining on as vice-chairman.

“It is a tremendous honour for me to take up this position, especially given that my own father was a founding member of the club in 1984. I wish to thank Jonathan for all his work on behalf of the Trust and Club over the years. I know the Board can count on his support and knowledge in the future and, on behalf of Board, I wish him every success.

“Now that (Chief Executive) Tim Murphy has settled into his role, the Board can focus on implementing the long-term strategic aims and objectives of the Trust and Club – safe in knowledge that the day-to-day operations are in safe hands.”
