FORAS / CCFC Visit Malmö FF
Cork City FC will visit Malmö FF from the 11th to 13th of August, as part of their club exchange schedule in the ‘Clubs and Supporters For Better Governance In Football’ project, co-financed by the European Commission and UEFA. The Erasmus + project aims to build connections between member-run clubs and national supporters’ organisations across Europe, as well as provide three distinct training workshops over a two-year period, (Good Governance, Sustainable Finance and Member & Volunteer Engagement).
FORAS board member and project leader for FORAS, John Kennedy, will share his experiences of community work in Cork, while learning how his Swedish counterparts organise and integrate their organisation at community level. John will also experience the ‘Supporter’s Square’, and the Swedish equivalent of the Family Enclosure, before attending Malmö versus Kalmar FF in the Allsvenskan (Swedish Premier League) in a top-versus-nearly-bottom battle.
Meanwhile, FORAS vice-chairperson, Mike Derham, will collaborate with Pierre Nordberg, Malmö’s Supporter Liaison Officer, to explore how their SLO programme operates before, during, and after a match. The Swedish Football League, (SEF), set up an SLO steering committee in 2014, made up of the SLOs from Djurgardens IF, IF Elfsborg, GAIS, IFKGothenburg, Helsingborgs IF, AIK Solna, and Malmö FF, and its steering committee advises the SEF on all matters relating to supporter liaison and serves as a spokesbody for Swedish SLOs.
On Saturday, 12th August, both John and Mike, along with SD Europe rep Niamh O’Mahony will attend meetings arranged with the Malmö board, sponsors and partners, and other stakeholders of the club, around the project ideals of Good Governance, Sustainable Finance, and Member & Volunteer Engagement.
The visit also enables Cork City to find out how Malmö prepared for their Champions League games this year, compared to how we organised for our 2017 Europa League campaign. For further information about the project, visit sdeurope.eu.
